Kanban

KanbanKanban forms an integral part of our  Manufacturing Execution System and is classed as a Pull system. Kanban as expected is a Japanese word: KAN meaning CARD and BAN meaning SIGNAL

A pull system is driven by actual customer demand and material is only released into production as it is required. A Push system such as those driven by MRP would release material and orders as customer orders are processed, MRP (Material Resource Planning / Manufacturing Resource Planning).

Kanban is not a scheduling system but a production control system that will define production using TAKT Times. One of the major Lean Manufacturing Principles is the usage and control of materials.

LEAN IMPACT has an inbuilt sequence of events tool allowing production sequences to be created. It has been used for many applications including kanban and support call out.  The sequence stages for Kanban can be triggered from operator inputs or sensors on the Kanban locations.  The sequence then provides a visual indication on operators screens and email notifications. This allows internal and external kanban's to be formed.  If a sequence is not responded to, i.e "a call for parts is not acknowledged", a escalation procedure is started.

LEAN IMPACT sequence of events allows the kanban system to be built to provide the actions you need.

The Electronic kanban provided allows

Inputs from:

  • Low storage level sensors and PC's

  • Indications can be provided by:

  • PC's, lamps and other operator interface devices.

"Operator Request Parts to indicate to store that more parts are need"

"A stores indication is provided, The sequence requires the stores to acknowledge the request. The request is timed for future analysis of the process"

"When the Stores acknowledge the request the operator is provided with a visual feedback that the parts are being delivered. Once they are delivered a final acceptance will be required to complete the electronic kanban call"
